Gerald Joseph Schmitt April 3, 1934 - July 31, 1989 Gerald J. Schmitt, age 55, Bad Axe, died Monday, July 31, 1989, at Saginaw General Hospital after a short illness. He was born April 3, 1934 in Bad Axe, son of the late John and Frances (Helewski) Schmitt. He graduated from Maurer Country School and attended Ubly High School. He was a member of the Huron County Farm: Bureau, the Ubly Fox Hunter's Club, and a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Smith Corners. He was employed at Huron Tool, Bad Axe from 1976-77. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Terry (Carolyn) Prill, Bad Axe; Mrs. Mike (Donna) Arnott, Bad Axe; Renea Schmitt, Detroit; one son, Philip Schmitt, Detroit; three grandchildren; a fiancee, Gertrude Erla of Cass City; seven brothers, Carl Schmidt, Esconbido, California, James Schmidt, Ubly, Simon Schmitt, Marengo, Illinois, John Schmitt, Francis Schmitt, Bernard Schmitt, and Clements Schmitt all of Bad Axe; and one sister, Mrs. Lon (Helen) Decker, Penbroke Pines, Florida. Preceding him in death was one sister, Evelyn Heilig on September 27, 1974. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Smith Corners. The Rev. John Cotter will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 6:30 Wednesday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. A scripture rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday by Fr. Cotter.
