Ernest S. Slavick  
July 16, 1932 - April 10, 2025
Ernest "Ernie" Slavick, age 92 of Bad Axe, passed away peacefully on Thursday, 
April 10, 2025.  Ernie was born on July 16, 1932 in Ruth, Michigan, son of the 
late Aloyius and Josephine (Klama) Slavick.  Ernie graduated from Ubly High 
School, then served two terms in the U.S. Army.  On August 1st, 1960 he married 
Irma Cregeur Yaroch.  After being discharged from the Army, Ernie became a 
seaman, sailing the Great Lakes on the William J. Irwin.  He was employed by the 
Carmet Company for nearly 40 years.  Followers of Aunt Netty's Nook were sure to 
find "Big Ern" sitting among the tools, ready to make a deal.  Ernie was a 
lifelong member of St. Hubert Parish.  He was an avid euchre player and could 
pitch horseshoes with the best of them, winning many championships, including a 
state championship.

Ernie is survived by his children, Dennis (Rocio) Yaroch, Laurie (Jim) Horiski, 
Gary (Talisa) Slavick, Kimberly Slavick (Dave Cook), Tracy (Joe ) Hessling, and 
Kevin Slavick.  Grandchildren, Jim (Stacy) Horiski, Julie (Richard) Thomas, 
Alexis Slavick (Tyler Kosinski), and Corbin Hessling.  He is also survived by 10 
great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  Brothers-in-law, Gerald 
Cregeur and Willard Cregeur. Sister-in-law, JoAnn Slavick.  Many nieces and 
nephews; and very special friend, Marian Wodwaska.  Ernie was preceded in death 
by his wife, Irma; his parents Aloyius and Josephine Slavick; brothers, Raymond 
and Lewis; great granddaughter, Harley; and In-laws, Cyril and Anne Cregeur.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 2 p.m. 
at St, Hubert Parish – Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Visitation will be held on 
Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe 
or Wednesday at the church from 1 until the service time at 2 p.m.  A combined 
rosary/scripture service will be offered on Tuesday at 7:30 pm at the funeral
