Sofka, 87, formerly of Ubly, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Fenton Extended Care Nursing Facility after a long illness. Winifred was born at home in Ruth on July 6, 1920 to the late Lucas and Anna (Hessling) Priemer. She married Henry M. Sofka on November 22, 1941. Her beloved husband of 54 years preceded her in death on August 4, 1995. Winifred and Henry lived most of their married life on the dairy farm that they worked together with her family. Winifred was the Sheridan Township Treasurer from 1972 until 1982. She was a former parishioner at St. Columbkille Catholic Church of Sheridan Corners where she was the weekday organist. She was a longtime member and past president of the St. Columbkille Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle No. 608 of Bad Axe. Winifred loved to read and passed this love on to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting, deer hunting, playing cards in the Crazy Pete Card Club, gardening, walking and spending time with her family. Winifred was always ready for any adventure that came her way. The spunk and spirit that defined her life was evident until her final breath. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who touched her life. Winifred is survived by her five children, Patricia Everman and her husband, Don, of Foristell, Missouri., Rebecca Femlee and her husband, Martin, of Bay City, Susan Sofka of Grand Blanc, Janie Main and her husband, David, of Highland, Steven Sofka and his wife, Carol, of Harrison; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene Priemer of Baroda, and Joseph (June) Priemer of Ruth; four sisters, Johanna Oborski of Florida, Rita Oberski of Ubly, Delores Frantz of Florida, Doris Glaza of Ubly. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. on Tuesday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, and from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church only. There will be a Daughters of Isabella rosary at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
