Susalla Mr. Jacob N. Susalla, 78, of Ubly passed away Sunday evening, June 22, 2008 at his residence under hospice care. Jake was born on April 22, 1930 in Paris Township to the late Fabian and Mary (Abraham) Susalla. He married Evelyn Lamke on Oct. 16, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Parisville. Jake attended the Filmore Country School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a PFC from 1951 to 1953. When he returned home, he farmed with his family and wife until 1963. Jake then was employed at Active Industries for 12 years. He was then employed at Gemini Plastics, retiring in 1995. Jake loved his beautiful garden, dancing and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jake is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Evelyn; two sons, Bryan and his wife, Tina, of Bad Axe, Darell of Ubly; one daughter-in-law, Patty Susalla of Ubly; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Susalla, Josh Susalla and his wife, JaNice, Jennifer Laske and her husband, Timothy, Judy Susalla, Tiffany, Derek and Chantelle Susalla; five great-grandsons, Jace, Jaxson, and Jordan Susalla; Alexander and Javian Susalla; five sisters, Frances Koceba and her husband, Isadore, of Bad Axe, Irene Eden and her husband, Gordon, of Filion, Agnes Gorkowski and her husband, Eugene, of Filion, Beatrice Kubacki of Ubly, Patricia Vogel and her husband, Herbert, of Harbor Beach; his brothers and sisters-in- law, Mary Susalla of Parisville, Cass Lamke of Bad Axe, Eugene Lamke and his wife, Mildred of Parisville, Arlene Longuski and her husband, Jerry, of Ubly, Richard Lamke and his wife, Barb, of Ubly; 51 nieces and nephews; many great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Jake was preceded in death by one son, Duane on April 8, 2005; two brothers, Arthur Susalla and William Susalla and his wife, Martha; three sisters, Theresa Skipinski, Eleanor Talaski and infant sister, Margaret; his in-laws, Paul Skipinski, Frank Talaski and Clarence Kubacki. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly with military honors provided by the Thumb Veterans Organizations. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. According to Jake’s wishes, after the funeral his body will be donated to the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the Mass at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Arrangements are being handled by the Zinger- Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.
