Born June 13, 1874 in Minden Twp, Sanilac Co, Mr. Swiercz spent his boyhood in that vicinity. When he was a young man, he went to northern MI where he worked 10 years in lumber woods. Returning to Minden Twp, he took up farming and road building. He was Minden Twp Road Commissioner 20 years and constructed many roads in the township, including highways leading into Minden City from all directions. He also build foundations for many houses and barns in Huron and Sanilac County. Mr. Swiercz also build the road leading to the Lumbermen's Memorial near Hale, MI and took part in widening Gratiot Ave between Detroit and Mt Clemens. He completed a road across a sinkhole in Lapeer County after another contractor was unsuccessful. In 1928, he went to Detroit where he engaged in road work and was associated 10 years with Juvenille Court until he retired in 1944 to Ubly. Mr. Swiercz was one of the founders of the Farmers Elevator of Minden City. He was an honorary member of Bad Axe council No 1546, Knights of Columbus, which he joined in 1917. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St John the Evangelist Cath ch of Ubly. Mr. Swiercz and Elizabeth Kolar were married in June 1898 in St Mary's Cath ch, Parisville. Mrs. Swiercz died May 26, 1948. Since then, he lived with his children. He is survived by six sons, Mark, Isadore, Edwin, Noah, Abel and August Schwiercz, all of Detroit; three daughters, Mrs. Elzear Bouchard, Bad Axe; Mrs. Glenn Brammell, Detroit and Mrs. Roland Feldmann, Algonac; 15 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a brother, Jacob Swiercz, Altos CA and a sister, Mrs. Rose Glaza, Bay City. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St John's ch. Rev Stanley A. Kilar will officiate. Burial will be in St John's cemetery. Remains are in Edward Zinger & Son funeral home where Rosary devotions will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday by Bad Axe council, Knights of Columbus and Fidelis Regina circle, Daughters of Isabella, and at 8:30 p.m. Sun by Fr Kilar.
