Leo Vincent Thiel August 6, 1916 - August 26, 1990 Leo V. Thiel, 74, Bad Axe, died Sunday, August 26, 1990, at Flint Osteopathic Hospital after a long Illness. He was born August 6, 1916 in Chandler Township, son of the late Adolph and Matilda (Ducharme) Thiel. He married Ann Eleanor Mazure November 16, 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rapson. Mr. Thiel attended St. Agatha Catholic Church, Gagetown, and farmed in Gagetown until entering the U.S. Army Air Corps in May 1942. He served in England and France until January. 1946, when he returned to farm in Verona until 1981. He also worked at Pigeon Manufacturing as a press operator from 1961 until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Thiel was an inside guard and fourth degree member of Bishop Babcock General Assembly Knights of Columbus Council No. 1546, Bad Axe, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since 1946. Surviving are his wife, Ann Eleanor, Bad Axe; four sons, Richard Thiel, Flint, John Thiel, Muncie, Indiana, Dale Thiel, Mendon, and Ronald Thiel, Oak Creek, Wisconsin; four daughters, Miss Rosanne Thiel, Traverse City, Mrs. Kim (Ellen) Hartman, Croswell, and Miss Susan Thiel and Mrs. Jack (Janice) Massimino, both of Flint; 9 grandsons; 1 granddaughter; three brothers, Arthur Thiel, St. Clair Shores, William C. Thiel, Pontiac, and Paul Thiel, Royal Oak; and four sisters, Mrs. Glen (Louise) Harding, Homosasso Springs, Florida, Mrs. Joseph (Marie) Lapak, Lake City, Rita Stewart, Waterford, and Mrs. Mary M. Schwartz, Cass City. Preceding him in death were two brothers, James Thiel and Joseph Thiel, and two sisters, Pauline Thiel and Eileen Thiel. Services were 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Cotter, pastor, officiated. Burial, with military honors, was in the church cemetery.
