C. Thompson Jr. passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at his home in Sylvania. John was born July 22, 1948, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Jack and Verna Thompson. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan where he was a president of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. John was a business forms sales representative with various companies throughout his career including Moore, Willamette, and GBS, and he was a former business manager for Daewoo Heavy Industries. John married Bernadette "Bernie" Kramer in November of 1971. They shared a love of the open water and were very active in the boating community, most recently aboard the vessel Superior Spirit. John was a longtime member and past commodore of the Toledo Yacht Club, member and past commodore of the Western Lake Erie Cruiser Association, active member of the Inner-Lake Yachting Association where he was past-president of the I-LYA Board of Trustees, longtime member of Bay View Yacht Club and the Crew's Nest, Put-in-Bay, Ohio. John was also active in race management for the Mills Trophy Race, Port Huron to Mackinac Race, and the I-LYA's Bay Week. John loved boating on the Great Lakes with his family and winters in the northern woods of Interlochen, Michigan. John is survived by his wife, Bernadette; children, Julie (Todd) Niswander, John H.C. Thompson III (Nadia) and Lynn (Brian) Kezur and grandchildren, Abbey, Kyle, and Lauren Niswander. Visitation will be held Friday from 3-9:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) with Blue Gavel Services at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin on Saturday with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. followed by 10:00 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sylvania. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania.
