Steve was born on September 2, 1920, in Parisville to the late Michael and Josephine (Puvalowski) Ulfig. He married Helen Alent on October 13, 1951, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. Steve graduated from a country school. He was a veteran of World War II. He worked for Active for 32 years before he retired in 1985. He lived in Parisville most of his life before moving to Bad Axe in 1995. He was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where he was an usher and a member of the St. Mary Men's Club. He was a member of the Parisville VFW Post No. 5740 of Ruth. He was a member of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council No. 3823. He was a current parishioner of Sacred Heart in Bad Axe. He was a member of the Bad Axe Senior Citizen's Club. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards and visiting with his grandchildren. Steve is survived by his wife, Helen, of Bad Axe; five children, Sharon Wolschleger and her husband, Gordon, of Decker, Michael Ulfig and his wife, April, of Naples, Florida, Robert Ulfig and his wife, Tatiana, of Naples, Florida, Stephen Ulfig and his wife, Patricia, of Bad Axe, Laurie Mazure and her husband, Neil, of Harbor Beach; eight grandchildren, Tammy Gerstenberger and her husband, Steve, Tracy Gerstenberger and her husband, Scott, Melissa Ulfig, Adam Ulfig, Jason, Randall, Derek, and Dustin Mazure; three step- grandchildren, Paul and Hilly Yeranosyan, Chrissy Barlow; five great granddaughters, Ashley, Kayla, Cory, Katlynn, and Jacob Gerstenberger; one step great granddaughter, Nicole Gerstenberger; two sisters, Stella Susalla of Harbor Beach, Genevieve O'Parka and her husband, Chester, of Bad Axe. Steve was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Frank and Walter Ulfig and one sister, Florence Susalla. Funeral mass for Steven Ulfig will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2002, at Sacred Heart parish of Bad Axe with military honors. The Rev. John Killop, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery of Parisville. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. on Friday and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m. Both services will be at the Zinger- Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
