He was born May 13, 1921, in Argyle to the late John and Martha (Gwisdalla) Vahovick. He married Virginia Swartz on May 6, 1950, at St. Louis the King Catholic Church of Detroit. She preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 1989. Isadore was a graduate of the Rapson Country School. He was a World War II veteran, serving overseas. He lived and worked in Detroit until he moved home in 1951. He farmed until 1981. He was the former owner of the Rapson Hardware Store, a milk hauler for MMPA, a truck driver for Earl C. Smith, and a maintenance painter for Active Industries, Inc., for five winters. He was a member of the Bad Axe Knights of Columbus Council No. 1546 for 25 years and a member of the Rapson Sportsman Club. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Rapson and a former member of the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph. He also was a member of the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed auction sales, casinos and visiting with family members and friends. Isadore is survived by one son, Dennis Vahovick and his wife, Debra, of Bad Axe; one daughter, Elizabeth Williams and her husband, David, of Port Austin; seven grandchildren, Denise Austin and her husband, Thomas, of Bad Axe, Darla Vahovick of Bad Axe, Dennis John Vahovick of Filion, Derek Vahovick of Bad Axe, Ted, Terry and Virginia Williams of Port Austin; one brother, Ken Vahovick and his wife, Alice, of Warren; one half-brother, Harry Wieszbicki of Bad Axe; and a half-sister, Theresa Steshetz of Green Bay, Wisc. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Irvin and Elmer Vahovick; and a half- brother, Bernard Wieszbicki. The funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. The Rev. John Weis, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring. There will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m. this evening and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Friday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.
