SKINDIVERS recovered the body of Paula Van Dalen, 16, of Parma, in the gravel 
pit four miles east of Peck, 25 miles northeast of Port Huron.  Normaleen Doerr, 
16, of Argyle, and Paula, drowned during a family outing Saturday celebrating 
Normaleen's birthday.  When their boat began taking water, Normaleen's brother-
in-law, William Doerr, 25, who lives near the lake, managed to save himself and 
his three-year-old son, Mike, but neither of the girls could swim.  Published 
Detroit Free Press Monday July 24, 1961
