Michael Francis Vida
January 21, 1915 – December 1, 2009
Michael Francis Vida, at 94 years old, passed away December 1, 2009 near family 
and friends in Harbor City, California.  Michael was born on January 21, 1915 
in Nedec, Spis County, Slovakia.   He came to America by ship with his mother 
and brother through Ellis Island in 1921.  He was raised in his younger years 
in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his brother, Joseph; parents; and his 
grandparents.  He later moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he met and married 
his one and only beloved wife, Beatrice whom he will now be joining in Heaven 
along with his blessed son, David John Vida.  Michael served his country in the 
United States Army as a military police officer and participated in the 
European campaign of World War II.  In 1952 he moved his family to Southern 
California and retired from Garrett Air Research.  He is survived by his sons, 
Michael, Kenneth and Raymond; daughter, Johanna; eleven grandchildren; fifteen 
great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. 

Funeral Services will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Ave., 
Culver City, CA 90230 on Thursday, December 10, 2009. Viewing from 10:00 AM to 
12:30 PM and services at 12:30 PM. Interment will follow immediately at the

Norma’s Notes:  He married Beatrice Theresa Ziska, daughter of John and Julia 
(Peplinski) Ziska, granddaughter of John and Katarzyna (Wrobel) Peplinski, on 
July 16, 1935 in Detroit.  Beatrice was born October 21, 1913 in Detroit, Wayne 
County, Michigan and died July 15, 1989 in Los Angeles County, California
