He fought a long courageous battle against leukemia. Jerome was born on January 12, 1938 in Sherman Township, the son of the late William and Anna (Emming) Volmering. Jerome attended Sts. Peter and Paul School in Ruth. He joined the U.S. Navy in November of 1955 and served two years. After his service in the military, he farmed all his life and loved farm work and his animals. He bestowed that love of farming to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed working with them and was always helping them in any way he could. He also enjoyed a good game of Euchre and trips to the stockyards. His greatest joy, however was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Jerome was a member of the Holy Name of Mary Parish, St. Anthony Church in Helena where he was also a member of the Men’s Club. He also was a member of Farm Bureau and the Knights of Columbus. Jerome married Eileen Booms on April 23, 1960 in St. Anthony Church in Helena and together they had five children, William (Gayle) Volmering, Richard (Wendy) Volmering, Nancy (Neal) Laeder, Leslie Volmering and his special friend Christine Pfeilstucker, and Douglas (Sarah) Volmering, all of Harbor Beach; grandchildren, Angela (Robert) Levine, Melissa (Scott) Stanke, Jessica Volmering, Ashley (Josh) Loss, Crystal Volmering, Rachel (James) DePatty, Cheryl (Matt) Gray, Ryan (Sarah) Volmering, Jamie Volmering, Jason (Rebecca) Noland, Stephanie Noland, Brian Noland, Logan Volmering, Luke Volmering, Alicia (Ryan) Miller, Adam Laeder, John (Katie) Laeder, Emily Laeder, Nicole Volmering, Amanda (Evan) Gentner, Troy (Katie Jo) Volmering, Janelle Volmering, Tyler Volmering, Brent Volmering, Olivia Volmering, Kason Volmering, Kylie Volmering, and thirteen great grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine (Stanley) Peruski of Ubly and sisters and brothers in law, Dian Volmering of Harbor Beach, Jackie Volmering of Ruth, Donna (Ray) Pulcer of Harbor Beach, Sister Jean Booms of Farmington, Sharon (Calvin) Messing of Manchester, Paul (Shirley) Booms of Harbor Beach, Mike (Linda) Booms of Shelby Township and Lloyd (Liz) Booms of Ubly. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Raymond Volmering; a sister, Doris Ann Roberts, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Virginia Booms, Carol Volmering, and Bernard Roberts Funeral Mass for Jerome will be Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Helena, of the Holy Name of Mary Parish, with Fr. William Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church beginning at 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Memories can be shared at www.RamseyFH.com.
