Al was born on June 21, 1924 in Ruth to the late William and Theresa (Guitar) Volmering. He married Margaret Hessling on January 26, 1946 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Al was a graduate of the Ss. Peter and Paul Elementary School. He was a farmer all his life, retiring in 1981. He was a parishioner at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Al enjoyed playing cards and visiting with his family and friends. Al is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret of Bad Axe; three daughters, Judy Miller and fiancé, Albert, of Shelby Township, Joyce Kulish and husband, John of Washington Township, Joanne Maurer and husband, Mark, of Bad Axe; three sons, Earl Volmering and wife Mary "Molly" of Cass City, Gary Volmering and wife, Karen, of Ruth, Herbert Volmering and wife, Marian, of Hebron, Kentucky. 14 grandchildren, Rene Popour, Eric Klebba, Patrick Sweeney, Jennifer Kulish, Dr. John Kulish MD, Lisa Volmering, Evan Volmering, Anthony Volmering, Jason Volmering, Cheryl Scott, Amy Polega, Jason Polega, Sara Santos, Jeremy Maurer; 12 great-grandchildren, Justine, Hunter, Austin, Adam, Dominick, Rachael, Debrana, Margaret, Faustina, Timothy, Jacob, Adreanna; two sisters, Elizabeth Geiger of Harbor Beach, Irene Holdwick of Ruth; one brother, Cornelius Volmering and his wife, Evelyn, of Harbor Beach; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Hessling and wife, Margaret, of Livonia, Charles Hessling and wife, Janet of Port Austin; six sisters-in-law, Rita Ostrander and husband, Robert, of Omer, Rosemary Sherman of Warren, Theresa Durrand of Bad Axe, Audrey Wolschlager and husband, Kenneth, of Bad Axe, Beatrice Guigar and husband, Dan, of Bad Axe, Angeline Burkhard of Bad Axe; and many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by one grandson, Ryan Maurer; three brothers, William Volmering and his wife, Anna, Vincent Volmering and his wife, Alvina, Alexander Volmering and his wife, Theresa; one sister, Mary Gentner and her husband, Bernard; four brothers-in-law, Clement Geiger, Robert Holdwick, Victor Durrand and Harley Burkhard; infant twin siblings, John and Agatha; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Landra and husband, Alvin. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor of St. John Catholic Church in Ubly, will officiate. Burial will be in the Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Ruth. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday by the Rev. Joseph Griffin at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Sacred Heart Church or the Family Discretionary Fund.
