He was born August 10, 1936 in Bad Axe to the late Charles and Ida (Booms) Wolschlager. John was united in marriage to Mary Jane Stevens on May 13, 1978. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2010. He was a 1954 graduate of Bad Axe High School. He was a dairy and crop farmer with his father in Sheridan Township from 1950 to 1979. John then purchased Lor-del’s Bar & Restaurant and later was a bartender at Pete’s Bar. He was a long time member of the Bad Axe Moose Lodge No. 2358. Big John enjoyed playing cards, bingo and visiting with his family and many friends. He is survived by his children, Vicky Fox of Oklahoma, Forrest Stevens, Kim (John) Fox, Jackie (Kevin) Cregeur and Joe (Ivy) Stevens, all of Bad Axe; 16 grandchildren, Steven, Randy and Christina Fox, Ryan and Ashlynne Stevens, John, Jennifer, Candi, Kaitlin and Skylynn Fox, Kyle Cregeur and Skyler, Sheldon, Austin, Hayden and Lincoln Stevens; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry (Delphine) Wolschlager of Caseville; three sisters, Dorothy Guigar of Detroit, Irma (Nic) Schroth and Helen McIntosh of Lansing; one sister in-law Josephine Wolschlager of Ubly; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer, Morris, Chuck and Joe Wolschlager and one sister, Grace Wolschlager. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bad Axe with Fr. Robert Howe, officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, 2 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday with scripture service at 7 p.m. and a Moose Service of Tribute at 8 p.m. at MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe. Visitation will also take place from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church. Memorials may be offered to the family discretionary fund or the donor’s choice.
