He owned and pioneered the land where the St Mary's Catholic Church sets on mueler rd. He and Elisabeth Kirkpatrick raised 13 children on that farmland and survived the great fire of 1881. They lost 2 homes and barn in the fire. Robert and Elizabeth had 16 children in all but 3 died as infants or toddlers, which might explain the small pieces of stone near and around his head stone. The stone in the picture reads as follows------- ---- ROBERT GORBUTT DIED MAY6 1896 AGED 68YRS 10MOS 27DAYS THE EULOGY READS- -- Sweet be thy rest dear husband -- Life and its evils now gone--Ears heard its cries of sorrow--Changed for the angles song--Rest steadfast dear father--Sad are these hearts of ours--We will cherish thy memory forever-And brighten thy grave with flowers. Additional Comments: There are 8 names listed as being burried in block 85. 7 of them have the last name Muter. It appears that one muter stone may be lying on top of Roberts grave. I do intend to investigate. I have many other photos and info if needed.
