McCallum, a veteran employe of the state board of health, died after an illness of two weeks, with blood poisoning incident to an old would. He was 69 years of age. During the Crimean war he was in the telegraph service and constructed, under the direction of the Turkish government, the first telegraph lines built in Asia Minor.
