EVERY died Nov. 17, 1885 AGED 3 y’rs 9 m’s 16d’s. (illegible verse) (footstone illegible) Notes: Aletha Every was born in 1882 to Horatio (09/20/1848- 10/04/1926) and Catherine J. (Lunday/Lundy) Every; they were married 06/28/1874. (Catherine’s father, Edmund Lundy, and wife were living in Lapeer County in 1884.) Aletha died of diphtheria on 11/17/1885 (interestingly, Flossie Speer dies on 11/17/1885 of diphtheria, followed by her sister, Nina, who dies 11/20/1885 of diphtheria). Her brother Floyd (“Floddie”) and several other relatives of hers are also buried in DuBois Cemetery. According to the Ingham County Democrat, “Tuesday night, a 5 or 6 year old daughter, Aletha, of Horatio Every dies of diphtheria.” Interestingly, two other children buried in DuBois Cemetery also died of diphtheria within days of Aletha’s death (see Flossie Speer and Nina Speer). The Ingham County Democrat also mentions a brother of Aletha, “10/24/1895 John Every, son of Horatio Every, married Miss Jennie Blair of Rives Junction on 10/23/1895. He will live in Jackson where he is a freight conductor on the MI Central RR.” Every family records do not indicate that Horatio and Catherine had a son named “John” but they do list a son named Wount. Wount could have gone by his middle name which might have been John. Also, the Ingham County Democrat mentions, 10/4/1926 “Horatio Every dies of lobar pneumonia, age 78 years, occupation was farmer. His parents were John & Jane Every.” Aletha’s our siblings were Wount, Lena, Ethel, and Floyd (Floddie) Every.
