Rowe 1832 - 1866 Charles H. Rowe son of Jacob Rowe and Betsey Griffin was born on May 1, 1832 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut USA. He died on November 19, 1866 in Watson, Marquette, Michigan USA and buried at Fairview Cemetery, Dansville, Ingham, Michigan USA. He enlisted in Company E, 28th Infantry, as Sergeant, Aug. 31, 1864, at Allegan, for 3 years, age 25. Mustered Sept. 1, 1864. Admitted to Harper Hospital April 6, 1865. Discharged at Detroit, Mich., June 14, 1865. Information taken from Records of service of Michigan volunteers in the Civil War 1861-1865. The following information was taken from a letter written by his mother Betsey to another family member. Our son Charles was married in 1866 went soon after to one of the counties north of us and took up a homestead, bought 80 acres besides, and built him a comfortable house. Supplied himself with a years provisions, and on the 8th of October with his wife and goods, left to take possesion of his new home. After he had been there 3 days, he was stricken down with disease which terminated in his death on the 19th of November."
