The godly man beneath this stone, Equalled by few excell’d by none. Footstone Reading: C. S. Additional Comments: SMITH, Cassius; 1824-1861; a prosperous landowner who, according to the 1859 Plat Map, owned acreage in the nearby townships of Lansing and Delhi. His father-in-law was an early land speculator in Northwestern Ingham County. Cassius died December 10, 1861, aged 37 years, 11 months, and 12 days. His footstone with initials identifies his grave.
