Note:  Civil War records show he enlisted at the age of 19 on 1 April 1862 as 
a Private in Ballston Spa, New York, for the State of New York.  He enlisted 
in Company Batty D Regiment 4th Heavy Artillery on 4 Jun 1862 and mustered out 
on 26 Sep 1865 at Washington D.C.

Michigan Genealogical Death Indexing Systems shows Charles H. Fairbanks, male, 
white, single, born in NY, Farmer, parents Cornelis and Julia (Haynes)  
Fairbanks, died 14 Mar 1874 (headstone shows March 11, 1874) in Alaiedon 
Township, Ingham Co., MI at the age of 32 years 1 month and 9 day, cause of 
death killed when a log rolled on him.
