HALSTEAD ENSIGN U.S. NAVAL R. F. BORN APRIL 10, 1859 GAVE HIS LIFE WHILE PAYMASTER OF THE U.S.S.S. "WESTOVER" WHICH WAS TORPEDOED AND SUNK BY A GERMAN SUBMARINE IN THE WORLD WAR ON JULY 11, 1918 OFF THE COAST OF FRANCE.
