Civil war records from ancestry.com shows that August Hawn enlisted at the age of 22 on 5 Mar 1861 as a private in Albion, NY. He enlisted in Company G New York 28th Infantry Regiment on 22 May 1861. Promoted to Full Corporal 07 Dec 1861 and mustered out on 02 Jun 1863 at Albany, NY.
