Townsend death certifcate shows he was born September 8, 1824 in Yates Co., NY and was the son of John and Celestia (Ferris) Townsend, white, male, married, farmer, parent of 8 children, 3 living, passed away January 14, 1898 in Baldwin, Lake Co., MI at the age of 73 years 4 months and 8 (?) days cause of death Lumbago contracted in the army in which he was discharged for and had been severely affected ever since, Rheumatism and general exhaustion. Burial was on January 17, 1898 in Mason, Ingham Co., MI. George W. and Sarah J. Townsend were married for 27 years and were the parents of Maud C. Townsend, Ida Avilla Townsend, and Jewett Townsend.
