They took up a homestead of 160 acres from the government, one mile east of the Boston - Berlin town line, where Frank Benjamin now lives, which is a part of the old homestead. To this union was born three children - two sons and a daughter. In the year 1849, Hiram Benjamin went to California during the gold rush where he succeeded in getting a nice amount of gold. On his way home he died on the boat and was thrown overboard. In 1850 Mrs. Benjamin married a man by the name of Foster. To this union two sons were born. The Benjamin children as they grew up and married, were each given by the mother a parcel of land, a part of the old homestead. Charles, the oldest and first to marry, was given his land off the south end. Harvie was given the next and their daughter, Olive the next, and the remainder to the Foster children. In the year 1866 Mrs. Foster accompanied her daughter and son-in-law to Virginia where they took up a new home. She passed away in the year 1891. Frank Benjamin, one of the sons of Charles Benjamin, was born in the year 1874 on the old homestead, and has lived there continuously with the exception of a short period.
