Detroit Free Press October 28, 1894
Portland, Mich., Oct 27.  M. McRoberts found two thieves on his premises last 
night, one of whom attempted to steal his horses.  They were driven away, but 
returned an hour later, one of them shooting twice through McRoberts' hat.  
They were pursued about town by officers, and a deadly fusillade continued 
untio early morning, with no one killed or wounded. One of McRobert's 
assailiants answers the description of a man wanted at Battle Creek for 
shooting an officer.
