Grand Rapids Press January 24, 1910
Portland, Mich., Jan. 24. - While working in a gravel pit near the site of the 
new Goodwin bridge, Claude Goodwin met with a most powerful accident. A large 
piece of frozen gravel broke off from a cliff above him and the young man was 
buried beneath it. His left leg was broken in two places.
