Grand Rapids Press March 1, 1915
Portland, Mich., March 1. - The golden wedding anniversary reception given for 
Mr. and Mrs. William Gibbs in Blanchard's hall here Saturday evening was the 
leading society event of the season for Portland. Two hundred and fifty guests 
were seated at the banquet table.
Mr. Gibbs came to Portland in 1854 and married at Ionia in 1865. They  lived 
on their farm three miles from Portland until ten years ago when they moved to 
one of the most beautiful homes in this village. Mr. Gibbs still owns his farm 
of 500 acres where his son, Lewis Gibbs, and family reside.
