Ionia, Mich., Jan. 20. - If a committee representing every asylum in Michigan
has any weight with the state legislature the word "asylum" will no longer be
used in reference to these state institutions. At a meeting of the joint boards
yesterday, at which all the Michigan asylums were represented, it was decided to
go before the legislature with a bill to this effect, so that in the future,
when a patient is sent to an asylum it will be to a "hospital" and the word
insanity will not be attached to the case of any individual.
It will ask that all asylums of the state be renamed state hospitals.
