Sessions, daughter of Charles and Marion (Cooley) Sessions, was born in North Plains township, Ionia county, July 8, 1842, and passed away at her home in Maple Rapids, November 22. Her mother died in 1844, leaving her and an infant brother, Nathan C., who died in 1864 at Chattanooga, Tenn., while wearing the uniform of his country. Much of her girlhood life was spent with her grandparents, the late Nathaniel and Chloe Sessions, who lived one mile west of the village of Matherton, Ionia county, and with an aunt, her father’s sister, Mrs. Matilda Mount. In 1862 she was married to G. Frank Abbott of Matherton, in which place they made their home for some time, then spending a couple of years on a farm south of Pewamo, then moving upon their own farm in Lebanon, then in a wild state, here Mr. and Mrs. Abbott endured the hardships and enjoyed many of the pleasures of pioneer life. In 1901 they sold the old farm and purchased one two miles north of Hubbardston, where they lived for a number of years, afterwards moving to Carson City. Frank and Cynthia, as they were familiarly called, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 12, 1912. Mr. Abbott passed away about a year and a half later. In the spring of 1915 she moved with her son to Maple Rapids, where she has since made her home. Mrs. Abbott was the mother of two children, Claud F., with whom she made her home at the time of her death, and Nellie C., who died Aug. 20, 1890, at the age of 20 years. The funeral was held at the home November 25, conducted by Rev. Ford of the M. E. church, of which she was a life long member, the burial being made in East Plains cemetery, by the side of her husband and daughter who preceded her to that better land so many years ago.
