Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, 21 Jul 1961

Frank Abfalter, 89, 632 Union street died at 7 o’clock Friday morning at Ionia
County Memorial hospital.  He had been a patient since June 7.  The son of Jacob
and Anna May Fry Abfalter, he had spent almost his entire life in Ionia.  He was
born at Westphalia, March 23, 1872, and was married in Ionia November 1895 to
Katherine Kalkofen.  She died in November 1959.

Mr. Abfalter was a cigar maker by profession.  He had also worked as a steward
at the Elks Lodge and Ionia Country club.  He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul
church.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Reno Root of Lansing, Mrs. Raymond Lapo of
Lake Odessa, and Mrs. Fred Thwaites of Ionia; five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be recited at Boynton funeral home at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. 
Funeral mass will be at SS. Peter and Paul church Monday at 9 a.m., with
interment at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
