Bunny was born Dec. 3, 1942 in Lansing and was a graduate of Eastern High School. As a young adult she studied Journalism at Lansing Community College for a short period then went on to work as a Tradeswoman in the Printing Industry where she became a staunch believer in the principles of The American Labor Movement and the rights of woman to earn a living. Seeking a more rural atmosphere Bunny relocated to Ionia County in the mid 1970s and took a position with Portland Public Schools as a school bus driver for many years before retiring to Florida 10 years ago. Bunny loved flowers and gardening and was known to, even recently, spend hours working with the beautiful landscapes of her home and her Orchid collection. Bunny was a devout patriot and loved our American way of life and all that it represents. She was a self-taught student of American History with a focus on the militaries of the US Civil War and WWII. Her life travels allowed the opportunity to visit each and every Civil War battle field in the country as well as many WWII battle sites in Europe. Bunny served as the family historian undertaking hundreds of hours of genealogical research which she shared with others in order that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would have a clear understanding of their heritage. Bunny loved to travel, read write and watch old movies boasting a library of some 1000+ DVD’s. She was an avid bowler and race fan including Stockcar, INDY and especially NASCAR. In recent years she took up an interest in gemology, trekking across the country with her husband and love of her life Bob visiting various gem mines and amassing an impressive collection of gems and minerals. Having the deepest reverence and respect for all who have chosen to wear our nation’s uniform she was an active member of the VFW and American Legion ladies auxiliaries. She was a past member of Fraternal Order of Moose Woman’s Auxiliaries, Holt Jaycees, Lake Odessa Area Arts Commission and West Central FL. Civitans. Bunny had many passions throughout her life with none as passionate as her membership and activities as a representative, organizer and contract negotiator with The American Federation of Sate County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 25. Her collective bargaining skills were legendary. Her efforts positively contributed to the livelihood of many of her co-workers and fellow union members. Bunny was a great animal lover and will be dearly missed by her cat (and Head of Household) Smokey Joe. She was a regular financial supporter to The Citrus County Humane Society. Surviving are her husband Robert of Crystal River, Fla.; her mother Mrs. Iris Holmes of Lecanto, Fla.; sons Michael (Roxane) Fisk and Robert (Ruth) Fisk all of Lake Odessa; daughter Margaret Fisk of New Port Richey, Fla.; her brother Michael Holmes of Houghton Lake, Mich.; her sister Toni (Mike) Keenan of Wixom, Mich.; 6 grandchildren, Robert (Summer) Fisk of Grand Ledge, Nate (Heather) Fisk of Hastings, Michael (Shelly) Fisk of Sheridan, Mich., Nichole (Alex) Thelen of Portland, Branden Fisk and Ashley Fisk both of Lake Odessa and 5 great-grandchildren Zane, Kayden, Parker, Grayce and Amos. In lieu of flowers a memorial scholarship is being established in Bunny’s name to assist displaced workers with retraining and education. Contributions may be sent to “Jane Achbach Scholarship” 5138 Musgrove Hwy., Lake Odessa, MI 48849. Please join Bunny’s family at a reception and celebration of her life on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at Penny’s Gathering Place 1035 Fourth Ave., Lake Odessa from 6 to 9 p.m. This is a casual (come as you are) affair to share food, good times and fond memories as Bunny would have wanted it. A private memorial service and internment has taken place on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 in Crystal River, Fla.
