Katherine G. Ackerman, 76, of Ludington, Mich., and Florida, a former Ionian, 
died in the Medical Center, Largo, Fla., Thursday afternoon.

Born Oct. 12, 1906, in Palo, she was the daughter of Fred and Kitty Gauss.  She 
attended Palo schools and was married to Fred D. Keister Jr. in 1925.  She 
assisted him in the operation of the Ionia County News, of which he was 
publisher, until his death in June 1958.

She was married to Donald Ackerman, former Ionia County Road Commission 
superintendent, in 1959.  They made their home in Ionia until his retirement 
and then began dividing the year between Florida and Ludington.

She is survived by her husband; one son, Fred D. Keister III, of Jackson; five 
grandchildren, Mrs. Mark (Katherine R.) Davison of East Grand Rapids; Fred 
Keister IV of Portage; Lawrence B. Keister of Oak Park; Christopher B. Keister 
of Traverse City and Jeffrey D. Keister, a student at Michigan State 
University; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete Thursday evening.
