Wilma was born on April 14, 1923, to Vern Conner and May Burtraw Conner, in the same house in Ionia Township where she lived for her entire life. Wilma married Glenn B. Ackerson on Nov. 30, 1940. She and Glenn had five children: Peggy (Dave) Prebble, Marjorie Ackerson, Edith Chambers, Benjamin (Jan) Ackerson, and Vernon "Skip" (Mary) Ackerson. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and by her daughter Peggy. Wilma and Glenn operated their family farm for many years. In addition, Wilma was employed by AC Spark Plugs during World War II. After the war, she worked as a meat packer at Ernie Wright, and then at Chrysler Trim in Lyons until her retirement. Wilma was especially proud of her many years associated with Lake Louise Camp and Freedom Acres. At Lake Louise, she was the craft director for nine years, and she later spent many of her fondest weeks there. She also had a tender heart for disabled adults, and she served as a parapro for Freedom Acres for many years. Wilma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Palo, the Order of the Eastern Star Doric #75 of Belding, the Historical Societies of Lyon-Muir and Hubbardston, and the Ionia County Genealogical Society. Wilma touched many lives with her loving and caring ways. Many children all over Michigan grew up calling her "Granny Wilma" because of her years of service at Lake Louise Camp and elsewhere. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, Wilma's friends and family send donations to Lake Louise Camp. A Paypal account is set up at www.camplakelouise.com. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at the North Plains Community Church with Pastor Ed Pedley officiating. Interment at North Plains Cemetery. Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home of Ionia.
