Born on December 27, 1945 in Lansing. Son of Allyn Jay and Margaret Ellen (Shilton)Ackerson. Graduated from Portland High School in class of 1964. Enrolled at Michigan State & while there was drafted into the Army. Attended Officer's Candidate school, after which was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. Served a tour in Germany and ended his service as a Captain. Back to MSU and earned his degree in Agriculture and Food Systems Economics. At MSU,Larry roomed with Bill Weller, whom became his brother-in-law. Worked at Greenstone Farm Credit Servicing as a loan officer & branch Manager. In the 60's Larry became a Hay farmer in Mason, Michigan. Married Judy Marie (Beard) in 1969. They were married 51 years. They had five children & fifteen grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Judy; siblings Patti Ann(Bill)Weller, John Jay (Sharon) Ackerson, Ronald Earl (Cindy) Ackerson, Norma Kay (Grant) Russell, Vickie Jane (Robert) Pontz,;children Stacey (Mark) Ellison, Tamie R (Leonard) Stampfly, L.Scott A (Kerry) Ackerson, Amanda (Jason) Forrester, Derek J (Allison) Ackerson; grandchildren Brody, Andrew, Jack, Natalie, Kyle, Devin, Colin, Trent, Avary, Sam, Jackson, Isabelle, Easton, Parker and Adam. Member of local Kiwanis for 37 years served as detail-oriented Treasurer. An Avid golf partner with friends. Larry cut, baled & delivered hay, also tapped maple trees for maple syrup. Volunteered with Mason Future Farmers of America Chapter. May make memorial donations to Mason Future farmers of America Chapter. A celebration of life will be held at the family farm on May 16, 2021.
