Ionia Daily Standard, Sat., October 24, 1891
Mr. Stephen Ackles, father of Mrs. Oscar Talcott, died at his home near Palo, 
last evening, aged 77 years.  The cause of his death was general prostration, 
following an attack of la grippe.  He was one of the pioneers of Ionia county, 
coming here in 1848.  He was for 40 continuous years local preacher in the 
M.E. church, which position he filled with great satisfaction.  He was a 
speaker with a fine command of language, and impressive in his manner of 
speech.  Funeral will be Monday at 12:30 from the home, a mile east of Palo.
