J. Bernard Adgate, 87,  peacefully finished his life's journey on February 14, 
2014 and was welcomed to his heavenly home.  His life, guidance, love and 
memory will be cherished by his beloved wife Evelyn as well as by his children 
John Adgate and Cheryl (Paul) VanTol; step-children Laurie (Bob) Smickley, Sue 
(Will) Wilkinson, Karen (Troy) Sprague and Mike (Tami) VanderLind; three 
grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brother Loren (Marilyn) Adgate and 
many nieces and nephews. 

Bernie was an active and devout member of Saranac Community Church, a member of 
Saranac School Board for many years, a charter member of the Saranac Lions 
Club, an important participant in prison ministry, as well as a local 
businessman who successfully owned and operated Adgates grocery store with 
locations in Saranac, Ada and Westphalia. 

Bernie proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII, serving in the 
Pacific Theatre on board the USS Pensacola. 

Bernie's Christian kindness, generosity of heart and resources, friendship, 
love and laughter will be deeply missed by not only his family but those who 
were fortunate enough to have known him. 

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at the 
Saranac Community Church with Pastors Becky Poor and Jeff Kahl officiating.  
Interment Saranac Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at 
the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac and on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the 
time of services.  Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Saranac 
Community Church Food Pantry or Saranac Lions Club.
