Ionia Sentinel Standard, 5 & 6 Dec 1940

Earl Adgate, 53, died Wednesday at 11 a.m. at his home at 1221 Boston street in 
Flint.  He had been ill for several months.  He was born in Berlin township May 
29, 1887, to Chester and Nora Adgate.  In June of 1907 he was married to Beulah 
Smith of Saranac.  About 25 years ago he was in the meat business in Saranac 
and later he transferred his business to Ionia.  For the past six years he had 
been employed at the capitol building and was only recently transferred to 
Flint where he worked at the school for the deaf and mute.

Surviving are the wife, Beulah; two daughters, Mrs. William Russel of Elkhart, 
Indiana, and Mrs. Harold Brown of Lansing; three sisters, Mrs. Vinnie Gates of 
Saranac, Mrs. Lydia Walters of Saranac and Mrs. Phena Smith of Berlin township; 
two brothers, John and Glenn, of Saranac.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Saranac 
church.  Interment will be at the Saranac cemetery.  The body arrived in 
Saranac Thursday and will repose at the home of his brother, John Adgate, until 
time for the funeral services.

Funeral services for Earl Adgate, 53-year-old former Saranac resident, will be 
held Saturday afternoon from the Saranac Congregational church at 2 p.m.  The 
body will be viewed at the church from 1 p.m. until service time but the casket 
will not be open during the service.  Rev. Victor Thrall will officiate and 
interment will be at the Saranac cemetery.

Floral arrangements will be in charge of Mrs. Paul Cahoon, Mrs. Earl Scheid, 
and Mrs. Dewey Cahoon.  Bearers will all be nephews, Keith Grieves, Judson 
Walters, Alfred Gates, Arthur Smith, Alden Smith and Russell Sprague.
