Adgate, 65, of 331 Ionia Street, Muir, died Monday at his residence. Born Feb. 20, 1927, in Orange Township, he was the son of Elmer and Jessie Megarah Adgate. He was graduated from Portland High School in the Class of 1945 and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. A tool and die maker, he retired from General Motors in March 1989. He was a stock car driver at local tracks for many years. He was married to the former Sally Havens in Beaverton in May 1959. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Patrick Adgate of Ionia, Michael Adgate of Muir and Nikki Adgate of Saranac; two daughters, Rita Adgate and Mary Jo Adgate of Grand Rapids; three brothers, Leland Adgate of Lyons, Wayne Adgate of Grand Ledge and Lawrence Adgate of Grand Rapids; and three sisters, Eleanore Day of Portland, Margaret Whipple of Grand Blanc, and Phyllis Jones of Ada. One sister preceded him in death. Cremation has taken place. There will be no services. The family will receive friends and relatives at the family residence in Muir on Sunday, Aug. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. Memorials have been established for Ionia County Unit of American Cancer Society and Ionia Area Hospice.
