Howard V. Adzit, 24, while in performance of duty with the armed forced “somewhere in western Europe.” Pvt. Adzit enlisted at Grand Rapid on October 16, 1941, and was sent to Ft. Custer, later going to New York where he shipped overseas. The last letter written by him was received October 21 by his parents and within eight weeks word came of his death. The telegram was signed by Maj. Gen. James A. Ulio, adjutant general of the army and was sent from Washington.
