Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2002

Mrs. Fern I. Agostini, 93, of Ionia passed away Jan. 16, 2002 at the Ionia 
County Memorial Hospital.

She was born the daughter of Riley and Nellie (Stinson) Leece on Aug. 16, 1908 
in Mound, Minn.

Fern owned and operated the M. Agostini Restaurant on Main Street in Ionia for 
many years.  She had also worked for Dr. Robert Sykes and she was a cook at the 
State Hospital in Ionia.  She was a longtime member of SS. Peter and Paul 
Catholic Church in Ionia, a member of the Women of the Moose.  Fern lived for 
her children and grandchildren.  She loved sports and reading.

Surviving are three sons, Michael (Mary Lou) Agostini, Louis (Linda) Agostini 
and Phillip (Dorothy) Agostini all of Ionia; two daughters, Sally (Jerry) 
Griffin and Sue (Gary) Swinehart both of Ionia; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Agostini on March 9, 1948; one 
granddaughter, Antoinette; daughter-in-law, Hope Agostini; two brothers, Glenn 
and Dale Leece; one sister, Hazel Clark.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday from SS. Peter & 
Paul Catholic Church, Ionia, with Fr. Melvin Fox as presider.  The organist 
will be Mrs. Mary Cusack.  The relatives are asked to meet at 10:30 a.m. at the 
church.  Visiting hours will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 
p.m., Friday at the Rich Street Chapel of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia with a 
Rosary to be recited at 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Memorial 
Fund in care of Cook Funeral Home.
