Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Aug., 2012

Gerald H. Aikens, 79, of Ionia passed away Aug. 20, 2012 in Grand Rapids. He 
was born Dec. 27, 1932 in Ionia, the son of Floyd and Iva (Thorp) Aikens. 
Gerald married Ruby Mincks Aug. 4, 1950 in Ionia. He worked at General Motors 
for 30 years, until retiring in 1982. He enjoyed buying, selling and repairing 
cars.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruby Aikens of Ionia; 
children, Jim (LeeAnn) Aikens of Orleans, Karen (Jim) Wood of Saranac, Gerald 
M. Aikens of Ionia, Freeman (Lee) Aikens of Belding and Quentin (Dawn) Aikens 
of Alto; brother, Donald Aikens of Sydney; 16 grandchildren; several great-
grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bonita and grandson, Travis. 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 at Lake Funeral Home 
of Ionia with Pastor Ken Harger officiating, Interment Balcom Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions in Gerald's name to Ionia 
Commission on Aging.
