Ake, 58, of Constantine, was taken to be with his Savior Jesus, February 27, 2004 following a lengthy illness. Max was born October 18, 1945 in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from Centreville High School in 1963 and attended college at Glen Oaks Community College and Grand Valley State University. Max was a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps serving two tours of duty in Vietnam as an electrical technician earning numerous medals. He worked as a quality control engineer for American Metal Fab retiring in 1994. He had also worked for Grumman Olsen, a foreman at General Tire, and as a prison guard. Max was a new Christian and looked forward to going to church. He loved his family and spending time with them. He was a member of the American Legion in Three Rivers and a former member of the VFW in Sturgis. Surviving are his mother, Rachel Ake, of Sturgis; his partner in life, Kathy McDowell, of Constantine; three children, Veronica Williams, of Greenville, Max Ake, of Ionia, Renay Ake, of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Rachel, Raven, Rebecca, Camron, Makayla, Corey, Adam and Brenna; sister, Margo (Larry) Klein, of Three Rivers, and three brothers, Ronald (Florence) Schrock, of Centreville, Alan (Rita) Ake, of Sturgis, Donald (Robin) Ake, of Edwardsburg. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer C. Ake, and sister, Peggy Price. Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends will be received Saturday from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Eley Funeral Home, Constantine, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Three Rivers Hospital Hospice.
