The death of John Albert and John L. Morse two of Otisco’s early pioneers is announced as occurring last week. They made there way into this vicinity while it was yet an unbroken wilderness and paved the way for bringing other settlers here who have developed the county into rich farms. Mr. Albert died at his home in Grand Rapids Friday, aged about 85 years, his health having been poor for some time. He was born in Baden, Germany, and emigrated to Ohio. He was a jeweler and in 1841 came through this township peddling clocks, and taking a liking to the land on section 33, purchased 640 acres. Peter Kemp and Henry Krupp worked with him and what is now known as the German settlement was originated. He moved to Alpine about 18 years ago and later to Grand Rapids. He leaves a wife, four sons and a daughter.
