She was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., daughter of the late Rolland Nash Stevenson and Anne McCaffery Stevenson. Mary Anne's mother died shortly after childbirth. Her father and stepmother Elizabeth Bryce Stevenson raised her from infancy. Mary Anne earned a Bachelors degree from Alma College and a Masters degree from Mercer University in Atlanta. She taught kindergarten for 10 years at St. Bede's Episcopal Church followed by 15 years in Dekalb County School System. After retirement, Mary Anne spent several years tutoring with Sylvan Learning Centers. She was active in various community organizations including PTA, Henderson High School Quarterback Club, Berkshire Civic Club and Dekalb County Association of Educators. Mary Anne was interested in genealogy, travel, reading, playing bridge and spending time with family and friends. The family traveled together frequently with one of Mary Anne's favorite trips being a two week cruise to Alaska. She loved animals and had a great passion for dogs throughout her life. Mary Anne is survived by her children, daughter, Susan Aldrich Eggers of Sylva, N.C., son, Daniel Charles Aldrich of San Francisco, Calif., daughter Anne Elizabeth Aldrich of Sylva, N.C., and son, Jon Stevenson Aldrich of Tucker, Ga. and grandchildren, Benjamin Aldrich Eggers of Atlanta, Ga., Matthew Ryan Davis of Boone, N.C., Stephen Andrew Eggers of Charleston, S.C., Michael Stevenson Aldrich of San Francisco, Calif., Katherine Rose Aldrich of San Francisco, Calif., and Elaina Grace Aldrich of Tucker, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Dean Leon Aldrich, who passed away May 25, 1988. A celebration of her life will be Wednesday, May 27, 1 p.m. at Emory Hills United Methodist Church. Visitation with family will be at Patterson Spring Hill Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 26 from 2 to 5 p.m. Flowers are accepted and appreciated. Those desiring a memorial contribution are encouraged to consider the American Cancer Society. A special thanks to Mary Anne's caregivers: Cyd Anthony, Evet Bangaroo, Moji Bakare and Mary Watson-Green who were provided by Senior's First Choice.
