A. Aldrich died at her home in South Boston, Aug. 9, 1908, aged 70 years 9 months. Betsey Ann Gould was born October 29, 1837 in the township of Boston, Ionia county. She was the first white child born in the township and had lived all her days on the same section of land. She was a woman of more then ordinary force of character and the impress of her personality was felt to a great degree in the social, religious and educational life of this community than that of any other resident. As a teacher she stood for many years in the first rank. She taught her first school in the old log school house in what has been known as the S. B. district when she was but fourteen years old. In all she taught twenty-nine terms. She graduated from the State Normal at Ypsilanti in 1865. She early gave herself to the lord, and lived an earnest faithful, consistent Christian life all her days, dying in the hope of a blessed immortality. She contributed liberally to all church and charitable institutions, but without any ostentation. She took an active part in Missionary and Sunday school work and was a member of the local Grange until her failing health made it impossible for her to attend. She was married Sept. 20, 1871 to Jas. A. Aldrich. Though no children came to bless this union, yet the tender loving care she gave the two little boys of her husband by a former mother proved the love that filled her heart. These boys, now men Willard and Robert in distant states could not be present at her bedside and do not know of their bereavement. Her husband, these two step-sons, two brothers, John T. and Nathan Gould, one sister, Vashti E. Aldrich and several nephews and nieces survive her. It may be said that the entire community will long miss and mourn its old-time friend and neighbor.
