Alexander, 65, died at his home in South Ionia at 11:25 Monday evening, April 28, after an illness of two years. He was born in New York state July 31, 1881, and came to Ionia in 1913. He operated the old Orpheum theater and later operated a garage and service station in South Ionia for 26 years which he leased in 1946 because of ill health. He married Fay M. Butler in 1900 in New York state and she died in 1925. September 4, 1931, he married Mrs. Minnie Wheeler of Ionia. He was a member of Ionia lodge F.&A.M. No. 36. Survivors are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Duiker, of Grand Rapids; two step-daughters, Mrs. Helen Frost of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Dorothy Kanouse of Lansing; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hurle, of Rochester, New York; and five grandchildren. A Masonic funeral service will be held from Boynton’s funeral home at two o’clock Thursday afternoon with Bert Fox as acting master. Rev. F. G. Dunbar of Grand Rapids will conduct the service. interment will be in the family lot in Balcom cemetery. Pall bearers will be Ted Sprank, Francis Patrick, Richard Slowinski, Carl Carrothers, Don McVeigh and Carl Malofsky.
