Allchin, 77, of Belding, passed away on Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Alice met her husband, Harold, in 1946 at a high school football game in Mason, and the two were married in 1948. They have celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage together, many of which were spent traveling on their sailboat and across the country with their travel trailer. They’ve spent the past several years enjoying their winter home in Punta Gorda, Fla., where they’ve been blessed with many friendships. While in Michigan, Alice enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also spent much of her time knitting children’s winter hats and mittens, which she graciously provided to local schools and churches in both Michigan and in Florida for those in need. She is survived by her beloved husband, Harold; her two sons, George and Pat Allchin of Lowell, Greg and July Allchin of Byron Center; four grandchildren, Tammy and Randy Root, Lisa and Brian Marzolino, Daniel Allchin, Bryan Allchin; four special great-grandchildren, Madyson, Jack, Jessica and Claire; her sister, Juanita and Howard Thompson; her brother, Leonard and Shirley Wells; special nieces, Trudy and Mike Blackmer, Jan and Ken Smith; as well as many other nieces and nephews. Alice’s life will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 29 at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ of Lowell; 404 N. Hudson, Lowell.
