The dead are: Mrs.Loretta A. Alleman, 79, who lived two miles north and west of Sunfield, and Mrs.Lillian M.Stockwell, 63, of Grand Ledge, a niece of Mrs. Alleman's Mr.and Mrs. Charles Campbell of Sunfield proprietors of a gasoline station about 150 feet from the crossing, were the only witnesses to the accident. the Campbells had just closed their station and were in their car preparatory to starting for home when they saw a car approach the crossing and stop on the track. VISIBILITY POOR The light snow falling obstructed visibility, and the Campbells were not certain whether or not the car had skidded. The train, a passenger streamliner, dragged parts of the car nearly a half mile. The bodies of the two women were found more than 200 feet from the crossing. M.D. Burkhead, Eaton county coroner, sheriff's officers, and state police investigated the rash.It marked the second and third deaths at the crossing this year. A bell is the warning signal at the crossing. Mrs. Stockwell was born at Roscommon, May 23, 1888. She had been a teacher of the sixth grade for the past 20 years at Union School at Grand Ledge. She was a member of the Congregational church, Order of Eastern Star, the A.B.C.Club and the Maccabees. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs.Richard Beals, of Grand Ledge and Mrs.Oren Lloyd of Detroit; one son,Nelson Stockwell of New Orleans,La.; four brothers, Everett Holland of Philadelphia,PA.; Dr.William Holland of Lansing and Richard C.Holland of Flint and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Alleman was born in Roxand Township, December 27, 1876. She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star. Her husband, Jay. preceded her in death 11 years ago. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.Funeral services for Mrs. Alleman were held Tuesday in Mapes Funeral Home in Sunfield. Rev. Don Carrick officiated at the service, and interment was in Danby Cemetery. Pall bearers were: Archie Smith, Charles Campbell, Lynn Anderson, Darwin Benjamin, Edward Thompson and Frakd Merritt.
