Mr. Earl J. Allen, 73, of Ionia passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 at Spectrum 
Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids.

He was born the son of Earl J. and Reatha (Norwood) Allen on May 1, 1928 in 
Ionia.

Earl served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War.  He married 
the former Johanna Stockinger on Nov. 26, 1948 in Vienna, Austria.  Earl worked 
at the Michigan Reformatory for 29 and one half years as corrections officer 
retiring in 1998.  He was a long-time member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic 
Church in Ionia and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his wife of 52 and one half years, Johanna; one son David (Gayle) 
Allen of Bridgman; three grand-daughters, Tina (Bryan) Ruby, Tammy (Tom) 
Kevelighan and Stacie Flagel; one grandson, Justin Flagel; five great-
grandchildren, Caitlin, Savannah, Rebecca, Hunter and Noah; two brothers, 
Donald Allen and Charles (Ardella) Allen of Lake George; his aunt, Florence 
Buckley of Portland; nieces, a nephew and cousins.

Visiting hours will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday with a Rosary service 
at 8 p.m. at the Rich Street Chapel Funeral Home in Ionia.  The funeral mass 
will be offered at 11 a.m., Wednesday at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in 
Ionia with Fr. Melvin Fox as presider.  The organist will be Mary Cusack.  
Relatives to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday before the 
mass.  

Memorial contributions can be made to the SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church 
Memorial Fund in care of Cook Funeral Home.
