Alberta May Allen, age 79, of Grand Rapids and formerly of Lake Odessa and
Saranac, passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009.  She was born on Sept. 28, 1929 in
Ionia County, to Glenn and Ethel (Compton) Weeks.  She graduated from Saranac
High School in 1946 and attended County Normal School.  Alberta married Paul
Allen on Dec. 27, 1947.  She taught Day School, South Bell School and
Clarksville Elementary School for several years.  Alberta enjoyed singing with
her sisters, playing the piano by ear and dancing.

She is survived by sons, Kellie of Mason, Tim (Cheryl) of Woodland, Curt
(Arlene) of Wilmore, Ky.; daughter, Paula (John) DeYoung of Hudsonville; 11
grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Crystal Taylor, June Smith,
Beatrice (Fred) Bowen and Joy Raimer; brothers-in-law Dean McLeod and Roger
(Alona) Allen and sisters-in-law Bernice Hamp and Shirley Weeks.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, daughter Karen, brother
Ron Weeks and sister Gladys McLeod.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2 at Saranac Community
Church.  The family will receive friends and relatives Saturday, Jan. 31  1-4
and 6-8 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac.  Contributions in memory of
Alberta Allen may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice.
